If You Died Tomorrow

Chandler, Ariz.—If you died tomorrow, would the people you love know how you felt about them? This question is at the heart of a book and workshop by author Lilia L. Fallgatter. In her book, The Most Important Letter You Will Ever Write, How To Tell Loved Ones How You Feel – Before It’s Too Late (Inspirit Books, LLC, $11.95, ISBN 0-9776574-0-X), Fallgatter urges people to communicate with loved ones in writing.

Following the loss of a close friend to cancer, Fallgatter  wrote a letter to her friend telling her of the significant  impact the friend had made in her life. She realized how  simple it would have been to write the same words to  her friend before she died and deeply regretted not having done so.

Fallgatter contends that “just saying ‘I love you’ is not enough to communicate what a person really means to you” and says that “the best way to communicate your feelings to loved ones is by writing, what she refers to as a “Loving Letter.”

Because the idea of writing a letter telling someone how you feel can be daunting, her book and workshop introduce a simple process for writing Loving Letters. Fallgatter emphasizes that “the people we care about deserve to know what they or their actions have meant to us.” She adds that “once you have written one letter, you may feel a sense of urgency to share your feelings with all of the people you care about and who have had a significant positive impact on your life.”

Fallgatter is an attorney, speaker and adult educator. She currently teaches workshops on the process she developed through writing letters to people in her life. Her workshops have helped others connect with loved ones on a more direct and personal level.
